“Miami’s Cinematic Dual Identity”
For the past four decades, Miami has been primarily a location
destination, with plots and characters derived from what outsiders think about
us. Recently, Miami has begun to
develop, create and share home grown product, determined to tell Miami stories
our way. Does that mean our local filmmakers are now responsible for helping us
shed an image largely derived not from “Miami Vice” but simply from the “Miami
Vice” opening credits? Can that happen
is your area/country as well? Join local filmmakers and film exhibitors for a
discussion that itself is proof of Miami’s maturing media status./ Hasta el momento Miami ha sido definido por “Miami
Vice” pero en estos momentos Miami esta desarrollando filmes y programas de tv
que se aleja de esa imagen. Puede esto pasar en su area o país?

Hen “Maria” A Short Film Produced by Sonya Chi
A coming of age story about a Chinese girl in
Hong Kong who was left behind by her parents and travels to Cuba after 15
years to be reunited with them. She quickly discovers that after all these
years of not truly knowing her parents, she has become a stranger within her
own family. Problems arise when her dreams about her future collide with
plans for marriage set up by her own father. This film explores familial
love, often not a given, but something that needs substantial effort to grow.
This film explores how family love grows through the struggle between
generations.
