“Miami’s Cinematic Dual Identity”

For the past four decades, Miami has been primarily a location destination, with plots and characters derived from what outsiders think about us.  Recently, Miami has begun to develop, create and share home grown product, determined to tell Miami stories our way. Does that mean our local filmmakers are now responsible for helping us shed an image largely derived not from “Miami Vice” but simply from the “Miami Vice” opening credits?  Can that happen is your area/country as well?
